Dynamic frequency selection (DFS) is a feature that monitors the spectrum and selects a frequency for operation that is not already in use, to avoid causing interference to radio transmissions such as weather or military radar.
It is a function imposed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for devices operating in the 5GHz UNII 2a and UNII 2c bands in the US and the bands within 5250 MHz – 5875 MHz in the EU and other parts of the world, where the radar systems are given preference for spectrum usage.
In the presence of local radar events, the Device Under Test (DUT) must select an alternative channel or cease transmission entirely.
